While adding SonicWall NSv to your Network Security Firewall Infrastructure at Amazon AWS, here are some common errors and solutions:
The software serial number specified is not valid for this version
There are two more likely issues for “The software serial number specified is not valid for this version” error:
- The license is not the correct type. SonicWall licensing naming convention is bit confusing to untrained eyes. For example, you might have purchased “SONICWALL NSV 100 VIRTUAL APPLIANCE TOTAL SECURE ADVANCED EDITION” instead of “SONICWALL NSV 100 FOR AMAZON WEB SERVICES TOTAL SECURE ADVANCED EDITION”. Please contact your SonicWall sales representative to get the license converted.
- Once you get the correct version of license for Amazon Web Services, you may still encounter the same error, “The software serial number specified is not valid for this version”. The default AMI for SonicWall NSv is the latest version 7 (7.0.0-1036), but most NSv including NSv100 licenses are only compatible with older OS 6.5. Please downgrade your NSv AMI image to OS 6.5 by abandoning this install and starting with the correct AMI.
